"Times battle. Ruined armies torn..."
The journey to defend the middle kingdom had already been a weary, and as yet daunting part of the day. But now, Uther considers, as King of the Bretons and the known English Kingdom, must come something of a turning point.
Should he battle against a relentless horde he has no experience with or save his men's lives and regroup with his allies? Uther concluded that neither would work since relations with his allies were unproven and therefore unreliable.
Thus Uther pondered at counsel. His thoughts a maze of confusion and uncertainty. Moreover, he considered a prophecy that was given to him that if he should fight the following day, he and his army would be woefully defeated. But while depression stabbed at doubt and all prophecy or prediction cast aside, a bigger threat of disaster waved upon Uther’s thoughts.
For with the approaching storm and the torrential rain that the ill wind was blowing from the West toward them, Uther knew that he would fall in any case against an enemy that was very experienced in fighting in such conditions.
And so it was that a day requiring such a difficult decision to be made - one that might make difference between sending men into certain death or life that Uther needed to be alone.
And so Uther walked the longest walk of his life, alone. Considering the odds. Weighing the pressing doubts. And while he dwelt upon the dancing eminence of his blade, sat there in a cave secluded from the world, idle thoughts and ideas surged through his troubled mind.
And he slept.
Based on ancient documents found by the writer, Uther is an altogether different account of King Arthur's father. An account that explores what really happened. Who Uther met and why that meeting turned one of the nation's most prolific and important battles.
And why it never rained on Sunday.
